Out of the many rummy variations, Pool Rummy stands out as one of the most competitive format of card games. Points matter the most in this variant as players get eliminated from the game once they cross the maximum points limit on the table.

The rules to play Pool Rummy are almost similar to Points Rummy. You need to arrange all the hand cards in sequences and/or sets to win the game. The winner gets zero point and the points of the losing players are calculated based on the points of their hand cards.

What makes Pool Rummy different from Points Rummy is that it is played for many deals until all the players are eliminated from the game. The process of elimination depends on the type of game; if you are playing 101 Pool Rummy, you get eliminated once your accumulated score crosses 101 points. Similarly, in 201 Pool Rummy, you are out of the game when you cross 201 points.

The game starts once 13 cards are distributed to each player, one card is placed up to form the open deck and the remaining cards are placed face down to form the closed deck. Players need to pick a card from the closed deck and then discard a card on the open deck. Through the process of picks and discards, players need to arrange all the cards into sequences and/or sets. Once a player completes the objective of the game, he has to place a card on the finish slot to declare the game.

The losing players get points based on the type of their hand cards. Their scores get accumulated over the deals. Once a player crosses 101 or 201, depending on the type of game, he gets eliminated. For example, in 101 Pool Rummy, if a player loses a deal with 70 points and ends up with 50 points in the next deal, he will be eliminated as his accumulated score has crossed 101 points. Once all the players are eliminated, winner who survives the elimination wins the pool prize.
