Do you really think rummy is a gambling game and it can make people forget their family? Well, this is what the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has stated when they appealed to Madras High Court. Taking this appeal Madras High Court have banned rummy and other gambling related games from Tamil Nadu even though they are very much legal in Andra Pradesh and Karnataka. This has created much confusion between players and they often seen asking whether playing online rummy games are legal or not.

Online rummy games are played with skill and therefore it is not considered as a gambling game even though played with cash sometimes. PIL also said due to the fact of the entertainment it provides, many players have become addicted to the game and often abandon their daily chores and family duties. When Madras High Court banned gambling websites, it also included gambling clubs in the Chennai city.

Some of the companies that host Ace2Three, RummyCircle etc. have appealed against the decision in Supreme Court and the hearing were started on August 13th. On one side there is state government and other individuals opposing online rummy games and on the other there are websites and platforms providing these services which are represented by top lawyers Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

Now, only the top court can decide whether playing online rummy games in India is legal or not. Moreover, there will also be a hearing for whether playing for cash or not legal. If we can’t play rummy for cash, then most of the entertainment and benefits factor will be out of the game.
